Oskar Blues Old Chub

While shopping for the week at our local grocery store, I was able to pick up this gem in a 6-pack (of cans!) along with Oskar’s new outing, the Gubna Imperial IPA, which I will review later.  Now please be kind as this is my first beer review and am open to correction as well as better ways of doing things, but here goes.

Popping open the can is truly unsatisfactory. One has grown accustomed to the sudden release of carbonation that you get from most soda’s and many bottles of beer, however this one gives nothing. But I soon find out there is a reason. The beer pours a dark, opaque brown and leaves nary a head to admire, which is fine for a scottish ale. The nose gives off a sample of what you are about to experience in your mouth, notes of toffee, chocolate, roasted malt. The first sip confirms your noses ability and hits you with a ton of malt flavor and a hint of the alcohol.  It is a heavy drink with a pallet full of flavors to enjoy while it dances on your tongue all to say this beer is creamy and STOUT! The finish is strong but in a very satisfying, not over-powering manner with a touch of smoke. This is malt heaven even for the biggest hop-head such as myself. If you are able to find this in your area, it is definitely recommended.  Here are the spec’s:

Name: Old Chub
Brewer: Oskar Blues
Style: Scotch Ale (Strong)
Medium: Can
ABV: 8.0%
